The Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) has issued an urgent warning to all water users, partners, municipalities, and stakeholders within its jurisdiction regarding an increase in scam activities involving individuals and entities falsely claiming to represent the Agency.
According to a media statement released on 13 May 2026, the Agency has become aware of incidents where unauthorised individuals and companies have approached water users while impersonating IUCMA officials. These scammers have falsely claimed authority to collect money, conduct inspections, or provide services on behalf of the Agency.
Important Notice from IUCMA
The Agency has emphasised that:
- All official communication, billing, compliance engagements, and site inspections are conducted only by authorised IUCMA officials carrying valid identification.
- No third party is permitted to provide services, issue instructions, or conduct inspections under the name of the IUCMA without formal written confirmation from the Agency.
- Former contract workers or internship participants whose engagements with the Agency have ended are not authorised to represent IUCMA in any capacity.
Safety Tips for Stakeholders and Water Users
The IUCMA strongly advises stakeholders to:
- Verify the identity and credentials of anyone claiming to represent the Agency before engaging with them.
